On December 9, 2007
eight Christians were shot by a gunman who was finally shot down
by a volunteer church security professional. This is not an
isolated incident. In May of 2007 a 36 year old man went on a
rampage in a Presbyterian church on an early Sunday morning
after killing his wife, a police officer and a church sexton, he
wounded three other men and pumped more than 100 bullets into a
nearby county courthouse.

How about the incident in
Rocky Mount North Carolina in October 2007 where a man stabbed
two ladies at Lakeside Baptist Church or a pastor’s wife being
attacked at Trinity Baptist Church in Hackensack, New Jersey
resulting in her receiving 2,000 stitches. I would be remiss if
I didn’t tell you about the man who burst into Peoples Church
during a Wednesday night service on Oct. 25, 2006 with a gas
can, lighting pews and parishioners on fire.
After hearing of these incidents,
the majority will say, “wow, I’m glad I don’t live in that area
or go to that church.” This brings us full circle…to our
mindset. There is no set pattern of the size, location,
popularity or other data that influences these acts of violence
against God’s people. It’s simple, Mathew 11:12 reads “From the
days of John the Baptist until now, the Kingdom of Heaven
suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. “The Message
Bible translation says that “violent people constantly attack
it.” CONSTANTLY! Not just 2,000 years ago, or once in a while,
but constantly. That’s directly from God’s Word. So I ask the
hard question, do you believe the Bible is a now Word for today?
Yes, definitely. |
